Solvay will hinge its exhibition at the K2004 International Plastics Trade Fair in Düsseldorf, Germany, on the concept of musical composition, which the Group sees as a metaphor for innovation in plastics through the creation of novel works using the full scale of Solvay products.

Solvay’s presence at the K2004 Trade Fair, Hall 6 Stand D76, October 20-27, 2004, will highlight the innovations in plastics proposed by different companies of the Group: SolVin, Solvay Benvic, Solvay Solexis, Solvay Advanced Polymers, Solvay Padanaplast, Solvay Engineered Polymers and Solvay Barium-Strontium.

Among others, a totally new transparent high-temperature sulfone polymer, SUPRADEL™ HTS, is being introduced at the fair. With a glass transition temperature of 265°C, it offers the highest heat resistance of any transparent amorphous thermoplastic polymer commercially available today and represents a technological breakthrough. This exceptional thermal performance, combined with other performance features traditionally associated with sulfone polymers, makes SUPRADEL™ HTS a viable material in engineering applications having high-temperature requirements. These include automotive, aerospace, electrical, electronics, and industrial product applications.

Other novelties include a new, nearly water white grade of polysulfone: UDEL® P-1700 HC. The material’s hydrolytic stability and resistance to heat and chemicals provides a level of performance that was previously unavailable with high-clarity plastics. Until now, a characteristic yellowness limited the use of polysulfone in certain applications. P-1700 HC provides improved aesthetics for applications such as face shields, protective eye wear, sight glasses, and lighting components, where temperature requirements approach 149°C.

The Group will also feature PRIEX®, a new range of multi-functional additives and NIDACELL™, new honeycomb materials.

The winners of the second SolVin Award for PVC innovation will be distinguished during a ceremony organized on the sidelines of the K2004, on October 25 in Düsseldorf.

The exhibition will include VINYLOOP®, the vinyls recycling process developed by Solvay.
